Guggenheim + Felix Gonzalez-Torres

In June of 2019, the Guggenheim Museum and The Public Art Fund sent me to the corner of Christopher Street and Seventh Avenue in NYC’s Greenwich Village to learn more about “Untitled” (1989), which was created by the artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres and conceived to be site- and date-specific. The billboard originally occupied this exact spot in June 1989. Then, as now, its installation marked the anniversary of Stonewall Uprising on June 26, 1969. Now, thirty years after its original installation, and fifty years after the Stonewall Uprising, the Public Art Fund has brought the billboard back. Read the article here.
